Tom Geoffrey Smith


Originally from Bristol, Tom Geoffrey Smith is the founder & co-owner of Cambodian inspired restaurant ‘BARANG’. His career in professional kitchens began over a decade ago, with his last role at Kiln in London.

Since launching BARANG in 2023, Tom has cooked both internationally & around the UK, showcasing his dishes via many sell out pop-ups & residencies. This includes sell-out runs at popular London restaurants such as Carousel, Oranj, Mambow and Hill & Szrok. Outside of the UK, Tom has taken over kitchens in Bangkok (Chenin), New York (Winona’s) and has now appeared two years in a row at Holy Smoke BBQ’s annual Heyday event (Sweden) which features a line-up of the most acclaimed live fire & BBQ chefs in the world.

Tom has travelled frequently to Cambodia for menu inspiration and development, culminating in a two-night collaboration with chef Tim Pheak at restaurant Bai Sor in Phnom Penh in March 2025.

‘BARANG’ is currently in residency above the Globe Tavern in Borough Market where he has received rave reviews from the likes of David Ellis and Observer magazine. Barang will move to a Soho location  in July this year.
