Rex De Guzman


A British-born Filipino chef and aspiring entrepreneur, Rex De Guzman, was brought up in South
East London.

Despite having a passion for food, Rex quickly realized that working for someone else was not
for him. In 2014, Rex began a new journey to learn about his Filipino roots and culture whilst
working and gaining experience in the industry and at the age of 21, Rex ran his first pop-up
restaurant which marked the beginning of his ambition and mission to pioneer and popularize
Filipino cuisine in the UK.

In 2018, Rex left his role as chef de partie in Gordon Ramsay’s ‘Maze’ restaurant in Mayfair (now
‘Lucky Cat’) to establish ‘Turo Turo’ a Filipino barbecue and street food stall trading at numerous
London markets with ‘KERB’ and catering for big brands including: ‘Amazon’, ‘Adidas’, ‘Channel 4’
and ‘WeWork’. In 2019, Rex competed in the ‘British Street Food Awards’ winning the title of
“Southern Champion” and then participating in the National Finals to win “Best Vegetarian Dish”
in the UK.

In 2022, Rex competed in the first season of Channel 4’s: “The Great Cookbook Challenge with
Jamie Oliver” and progressed to the grand finals of the cooking show.
Rex’s current focus is on opening his first Filipino restaurant and writing his first Filipino
cookbook. Other endeavors include food consulting, creating content and collaborating on
projects
