Jekka McVicar
Jekka McVicar is widely considered to be the queen of herb gardening and cookery. She created Jamie Oliver and Raymond Blanc’s herb gardens, has won a record 59 RHS Gold medals for her herb displays at The Chelsea Flower Show, and is now Head Judge for the RHS.
Jekka’s Herb Farm has been open for over 20 years, where she grows over 600 species of culinary, medicinal and aromatic herbs from around the world. In 2014 Jekka relaunched the farm as the world’s first Herbetum, with an unprecedented collection of herbs, Masterclasses and demo’s for the public. In 2016 Jekka is creating a Show Garden called ‘A Modern Apothecary’ for St John’s Hospice at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and the garden will be relocated to the hospice after the show.
Jekka has published four books and writes a regular column for BBC Gardener’s World magazine. She has appeared on many TV programmes including Jamie Oliver’s Oliver’s Twist, Rick Stein’s Food Heroes, BBC’s Great British Nature Revival and Gardeners World. Jekka collaborates with brands such as Vitacress and Canton Tea Co, and this year has launched a brand new retail range of herb seeds with Johnsons Seeds, including 47 species and her personal sowing, growing and usage advice.
Her latest book Jekka’s Herb Cookbook was published by Ebury in 2012. Jekka’s Complete Herb Book sold its 1 millionth copy last year.
